I want to help children find their voices at YMCA childcare.’

With our next wave of days camps just around the corner, one of our Sport and Play Leaders, Liam, shares below his journey to Nottinghamshire YMCA and his dreams to one day set up his own childcare and coaching service.

Hi everybody, my name is Liam,

With a BTEC (Level 3) in Sport and Science, my background is in sport and I’ve have been a very active person all my life. As a qualified F.A (Level 2) Football Coach and Referee, I also have a (Level 2) Fitness Instructor qualification, and a (Level 1) Archery Coach qualification.

Whether it’s football or golf, I’m always doing sport in my spare time, and also love going on walks in the countryside with my little daughter and traveling around the country. My favourite film is Happy Gilmore, a comedy about a Hockey player who turns into a pro-Golfer; it’s comedy gold and I advise everyone to give it a watch!

I’ve been working for Nottinghamshire YMCA for six years now as a Sport and Play Leader. My role working with the charity’s Day Camps and childcare teams primarily involves delivering our Children, Young People and Families programmes at a range of sites across Nottinghamshire. I am also the Senior Play Leader for YMCA childcare at Edgewood Primary School.

It’s very rewarding to see our young people learn and grow. Above all, I want to provide a fun and enjoyable experience for all children who come to our before and after school clubs, and would like children of all ages to know that it’s a place of safety and fun, where everyone can come together to play games and sports.

It means a lot to help children to become confident and find their voices at YMCA childcare.

This summer, I’m looking forward to being the Archery Skill Clinic Leader and Kid Zone Group Leader at Camp Williams, based at Emmanuel School in West Bridgford. I’m very excited! As a big kid myself, being able to come to work and play games and have a fun with all of the incredible children I meet is just the perfect job.

In the future, I want to be able to run my own childcare and coaching provision. I love working for and helping YMCA childcare support and develop young people, and want to make their clubs the best clubs in Nottinghamshire.
