Nottinghamshire YMCA announces Winter Shelter Provision in Mansfield

Sandra-Young-MansfieldHaving worked closely with Mansfield District Council, Nottinghamshire YMCA is pleased to announce the charity will be supporting with the local winter shelter provision this year.

Due to COVID-19, alternative winter provision options were needed so YMCA has agreed to use one of the charity’s properties in Mansfield to ensure our community’s most vulnerable members have shelter this winter.

This offering will look quite different to other winter provisions as does not just offer support for one night, but rather each street homeless person will be offered a room for a 12-week period commencing from the 7 December 2020.

The Mansfield District Council Homeless Section will be the single point of referral for this scheme.

Sandra Young, Housing Development Manager for Nottinghamshire YMCA’s Housing team in Mansfield, said: “Winter Shelter Provisions are essential for ensuring homeless individuals have somewhere safe and warm to stay when the weather is at its most dangerous for rough sleeping.

“We don’t just want to offer a single night of safety, but rather we hope these longer term arrangements will help create an opportunity for homeless people to receive the bespoke support they need to make meaningful life changes that translate into long-term stable living options.

“This is an exciting opportunity to support our community and partner with Mansfield District Council to protect our most vulnerable members of society. I am confident it will be a great success.”
