Malt Cross reopens for drinks and fun in Nottingham

Welcome back to the Malt Cross!

As a former Victorian music hall, Nottinghamshire YMCA’s partner charity, the Malt Cross, is a cafe bar community hub based on St James’ Street, just off Market Square at the heart of Nottingham city centre. What is more – the stunning grade II listed venue is now back open for business!

An update from the Malt Cross team

As our beautiful venue reopens its grade II listed doors to warmly welcome you back, we would like to share an update of our brand new offerings and how we plan to keep our staff and customers safe so we can all enjoy some much-needed good times together.

We hope you have all being staying safe and positive during these challenging times – we have missed you greatly these past four months! Life only feels right when our former Victorian music hall is ringing with songs, laughs (and drinks orders!) that make the café bar such a treasured linchpin of our community in Nottingham.

From the Malt Cross reopening on Thursday 16 July, we have made a couple of changes to ensure you can indulge all your favourite pastimes in the safest way possible. Our kitchen is not yet open for food – but keep an eye on our social media for updates on this in the near future – and you won’t be disappointed by our tasty new beverage offerings!

Brand New Mini-Keg Offering!

We’ve reduced our draught selection for the time being but that doesn’t mean we’re short of quality beers for you to enjoy on your first visit back! To celebrate the reopening of the Malt Cross, we are delighted to introduce our brand new 5-litre mini keg offering.

We understand that not everyone feels ready to sit in our bar areas yet, so these great new tipples are available for takeout or drink in; however you like to enjoy your kegs, it’s great to know that they are all coming from local independent breweries! This selection will be rotating constantly – just ask a member of staff for more information.

Keeping you safe

We appreciate that coming into the city centre may be a big deal for many of our customers, particularly if you have been shielding. That is why we are working stringently within government guidelines to ensure our facilities, hygiene rituals, staff protocols and health and safety rules across the board reflect the top standards needed for you to enjoy your outing with ease and confidence.

To help this, we are implementing the following protocols. We promise to:

  • Provide additional ‘pop-up’ sanitising stations for customers and staff throughout the building;
  • Implement a new one-way entering and exiting system to comply with social distancing rules;
  • Revise floor plans to ensure a 1-metre+ distance can be kept between all guests and bar staff when moving throughout the building at all times;
  • Limit party sizes to a maximum 6 people per table
  • Make sure PDQ machines will be sanitised and thoroughly wiped after every use;
  • Ensure all staff are aware of the Malt Cross Covid-19 risk assessment and understand their obligations related to the safety of themselves and others around them.

Your safety is our absolute top priority and we hope these new systems help you to feel more confident when visiting our venue. We hope you are all staying safe and positive, and we can’t wait to see you in our lovely Malt Cross bar and café very soon!

With lots of care and locally brewed love,

Your Malt Cross family
