Mattress company pledges support to our Mansfield hostel

Homeless young people seeking support at Nottinghamshire YMCA’s hostel in Mansfield will sleep well thanks to the generosity of a local business.

Safe and warm place to sleep

Emma Mattresses, which has a depot in Mansfield, donated seven top-of-the-range single mattresses worth £379 each to the charity’s hostel, which provides housing services for vulnerable young people (aged 18-25) at Commercial Gate.

With promise of more contributions to come, this arrangement will provide young people who often face dangerous conditions while sleeping rough on the streets with an extra special night’s rest when they turn to Nottinghamshire YMCA for a safe place to stay.

“We are so grateful to Emma Mattresses for literally changing lives with their invaluable contributions,” said Sabine Skjellund, Housing Officer at Nottinghamshire YMCA’s Mansfield hostel.

“For most of us, the security of climbing into our bed each night is something we take for granted – but this is not always the case for our residents who have too often been through so many traumas when they come to us for support.

“Before even thinking about a future, you first need a dry and comfortable night’s sleep. To be able to ensure these vulnerable members of our society can have a safe, warm bed is very important for taking that first step towards rebuilding their sense of wellbeing.”

‘Eternally grateful’

“One resident is already enjoying his new mattress,” Sabine enthused. “He came in looking so relaxed and refreshed with the biggest smile to tell us that it was ‘the best night’s sleep’ he has ever had.

“The young people of Mansfield are our community’s future, and compassion from local individuals and businesses is vital to ensuring the security and social mobility of the next generation.

“We are eternally grateful and look forward to growing our fantastic relationship with Emma Mattresses and other local businesses in the future.”

Ysabella Taborga, who is responsible for International Business Development UK at Emma Mattresses, said: “At Emma, we are extremely happy that our mattresses contributed to the Nottinghamshire YMCA with their mission of providing vulnerable people with their support needs.

“We are glad to see that our contribution has created a safe sleeping environment for young people’s lives and we look forward to making a further positive impact in the world.”
