Summer Skill Clinics at Camp Williams

Nottinghamshire YMCA will be debuting many new activities for children to enjoy, including skateboarding and cooking masterclasses, at Camp Williams throughout August 2019.

The list of summer activities is growing continuously at Camp Williams, Nottinghamshire YMCA’s longest running holiday camp for children. Camp Williams is a place where children from all backgrounds and walks of life can come together to form new positive friendships, learn new skills, and build confidence.

Skill Clinic Masterclasses

Campers aged 8-15 take part in special sessions called ‘Skill Clinics’, designed to enhance their confidence and capability in a range of exciting skills. New advanced sessions called ‘Skill Clinic Masterclasses’ are being introduced for this summer, allowing campers to focus on mastering one specific skill over the course of a week.

Nottinghamshire YMCA has added four brand new activities to the Camp Williams Summer 2019 schedule. Cricket, athletics, scootering and dance will be on offer throughout July and August.

The full range of skills clinics on offer includesarchery, athletics, football, basketball, crafts, dance, drama and theatre, mountain biking, climbing, cricket, skateboarding, kayaking, scootering, music and science.

‘Making friends and lasting memories’

Skills Clinics are just one of the ways in which Camp Williams promotes positive, experience-led development for young people. Children from the age of four take part in swimming, camp rallies, group games, and Camp Fire Fridays, where parents/carers can attend to watch performances delivered by our campers. Making friends and lasting memories along the way, Camp Williams helps to build self-esteem, giving young people the confidence that they need to seek exciting, fulfilling experiences in adult life.

Martyn Gibbons, Camps Services Manager at Nottinghamshire YMCA, said: “Skill Clinics are fundamental for a child to unleash their true potential. They create a fun and exciting pathway to enable a young person to begin as a novice in an activity, progressing to a master at the focused discipline.

“The opportunity to participate in so many different activities under one roof is rare. What is more, the opportunity for a child to engage in something that can shape their life positively is truly great. I love that we can provide the children here with opportunities to try out so many different and exciting activities.”

Adventure day trips

Alongside Skill Clinics, campers will be able to take part in the highly anticipated Adventure Day Trips, taking their newly acquired skills out to a variety of locations across the city, including Red Kangaroo Trampoline Park, Flo Skate Park, and Si5 SpyMissions.

Skill Clinic Masterclasses must be booked in advance, to book Camp Williams call 0115 7117 006. Please note that regular Skill Clinics are subject to change depending on each week of camp and weather conditions.
