Everything You Need To Know

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes preparing to reopen safely and welcome you back in to the gym. Here is all the information you need during this initial re-opening period.

YMCA Gym is Covid-19 compliant following Government guidelines:

  • Enhanced cleaning protocols in operation daily. We will also close during the middle of the day for deep cleaning.
  • Hand sanitisers available at various points throughout the gym.
  • A pre-booking system in operation:
    Gym sessions – members personal workout session with access to the main gym and performance area. No more than 10 members per session. Please see below for available equipment.
    CrossFit sessions – 6 CrossFit members per class or Open Gym.
  • Clearly defined social distancing throughout, with enhanced signage.
  • We have moved equipment to ensure social distancing can be maintained and clearly defined queuing areas.
  • Cleaning materials available for members to sanitise and wipe equipment before and after use.
  • Cleaning wipes available in the toilets for members to wipe the facilities before and after use.
  • A member of the team will be on hand to answer for any concerns or questions and to help maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Limited capacity in various areas of the gym and demarcated workout zones. Please refer to signage.
  • No towel service and all showers and changing rooms to remain temporarily closed.
  • Important: New Guidelines when visiting YMCA Gym
    • Arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before your booked time slot. If you are more than 5 minutes late for your time slot, you will not be granted access.
    • Please wait behind the allocated lines in our new temporary entrance until you can enter the gym. Once your time slot has started, a member of the gym team will be on hand to take you into the gym.
    • Ensure you are wearing a face mask upon entering. No face mask, no entry. This can be removed whilst using our cardio equipment.
    • Adhere to the member limits in each area of the gym. Please wait your turn at the sign if there are already enough people training in the area you would like to use.
    • Please sanitise the equipment before and after use with the cleaning items provided. This will help us to maintain a #gymsafe environment for everyone.
    • You will find that our lockers now have no doors. This is to ensure avoidance of touch points within the gym. With this in mind, please ensure that you bring as little as possible with you. All items are left at your own risk.
    • You will have access to the water fountain, however only if you bring your own bottle to fill up. There will be NO drinking from the tap, so please ensure you bring your own bottle.
    • If you would like to speak to an instructor during your visit please wait behind the line at reception until they are available.
    • When you are due to finish your time slot, please wait at our usual entrance whilst maintaining social distancing. When your time slot has finished, an instructor will unlock our usual entrance to let you out. This will be locked throughout your session to prevent anyone else accessing the gym without booking. Therefore, if you would like to finish your workout prior to the end of your time slot, please wait at reception behind the line for the instructor who can let you out.
    • Toilets are available for use on the gym floor only. Please sanitise before and after use with the wipes provided.
    • Changing rooms and showers are not available to use. Please shower at home.
    • You’ll find that the volume of the music is low. This is intentional to eliminate the need to raise your voice which can increase the risk of transmission
    • We are operating a cash free gym with no sale items or Pay as you Go visits available.
  • Important: New Guidelines visiting CrossFit1871
    • You will enter via our new temporary entrance, where you will queue and wait to be let into the gym. Ensure you arrive no earlier than 10 minutes before your booked time slot. If you are more than 5 minutes late for your time slot, you will not be granted access.
    • Once your time slot has started, a staff member will let you into the gym where an 1871 coach will be waiting on the stairs. From here you will be sent up the stairwell into 1871 with a number. This number relates to your designated workout space which you are to stand in until given further instruction.
    • Ensure you are wearing a face mask upon entering. No face mask, no entry. This can be removed during your session.
    • Once all who are booked onto the class/open gym are in 1871, the session will start.
    • To keep everyone safe and to allow for maximum social distancing, there will be no more than 6 people allowed to take part in a class/open gym.
    • All 1871 sessions will be limited to 50 minutes, which gives time to clean, put away equipment and exit the gym.
    • If you are taking part in a class, an 1871 coach will explain the workout and then, if any equipment is needed, will give instruction as to when you can collect your equipment and bring it back to your designated workout space so you can start the workout.
    • If you are taking part in an open gym session, please follow the coach’s directions and that you remain within your designated workout space unless getting equipment.
    • In each workout space you will be provided with cleaning equipment for you to use before AND after use. You will also have access to hand sanitiser on entry and exit of 1871
    • To help increase air flow during the sessions, we will be opening some or all of the windows, and we will also have some or all of the fans on. If you find you tend to get a bit cold when the fans are on, please ensure you bring an extra layer so you do not get too cold.
    • You will have access to the water fountain, however only if you bring your own bottle to fill up. There will be NO drinking from the tap, so please ensure you bring your own bottle.
    • There will also be access to the toilets. In the toilets you will find wipes you can use to clean the facilities before AND after use.
    • Please ensure you wash your hands thoroughly and also that you use the hand sanitiser provided when you come back into 1871.
    • Once your session has finished, the 1871 coach will walk you back down the stairs, where a member of the gym team will allow you to exit via the original entrance
    • The changing rooms and showers will not be available to use, so please make sure you come in your workout gear.
    • We will also be keeping the volume of the music low; this is to reduce the need for either yourself or the coach to raise your voice. We will still be playing our awesome tunes; they will just be a little bit quieter.
    • We will be operating a cash free gym with no sale items or Pay as you Go visits available.
  • Current members – Update personal/contact details
    • Complete this online form with updated personal and contact details. This is to enable us to inform you of any confirmed cases of COVID-19 within the gym at the times that you have visited.
      Access to the form can be found in recent correspondence or by emailing gym@nottsymca.org.
    • Read the updated T&Cs and liability waiver 
    • The gym will get in touch to confirm that your membership has been reactivated and that bookings can now be made online and via the app.
  • Booking journey
    • Gym sessions can be booked up to 2 weeks in advance 
    • Bookings close 15 minutes before each session 
    • Cancellations can be made up to 2 hours before each session. This is to allow time for other members to take that place 
    • You can sign up for the waiting list if your preferred session is already fully booked. 
  • Opening hours
    Both the gym and 1871 will remain closed in the middle of the day to allow for deep cleaning.
