Thank you to everyone who took part in Sleep Easy 2014 and has helped raise vital funds for homeless and vulnerable people in Nottingham.
Last Friday, 7th March, was Nottinghamshire YMCA’s fourth annual Sleep Easy event.
Luckily the rain stayed away and we didn’t see any sub-zero temperatures.
Liam, who took part in the event, said:
‘Last night was amazing! Experienced what so many people go through night in, night out. I found the cold and the wind hard and I had layer on layer of clothes and a sleeping bag, so I couldn’t imagine how actual homeless people can do this.’
Artists from the Young Creatives project came along to keep the participants entertained with acoustic music before they tried to get some sleep.
Tracey Perkins (Senior Housing Manager) and Thomas Galley (Marketing Manager) also received a big cheque for £661.85 from Nottingham Trent University Women’s Rugby team’s Sleep Out on the 7th February.
Money raised from Sleep Easy is designated to helping improving the lives of our residents directly.
Money raised from previous Sleep Easy events has paid for a translator to support refugees in counselling sessions, hot meals during the cold winter months and food parcels for residents who have been sanctioned and are waiting for their hardship payment. We also use some of the money to contribute to paying for a starter pack for each resident which contains things such as a duvet, pillow, plates and cutlery as many residents do not have anything when they arrive.
You can still donate to Sleep Easy or sponsor one of the brave participants.
