Nottinghamshire YMCA is celebrating the charity’s official purchase of the historical International Community Centre (ICC) on Mansfield Road.

Although its name and logo has stood proudly on the building’s front for many years, it was not until this month that the charity, which promotes healthy living, youth development and social responsibility, took legal ownership of the ICC.

Formerly the Old Bluecoat School Nottingham, the ICC is now a non-profit establishment boasting a range of recreational programmes and facilities to provide community-focused services for local people of all ages.

On Monday 11 June, the ownership deal with Nottinghamshire YMCA was sealed, protecting this space for the Nottingham community’s use for years to come.

“The centre has been a focal point for our community’s varied activities for almost a decade,” said Craig Berens, Director of Operations and Programmes at Nottinghamshire YMCA.

“It is always a real privilege welcoming people through our doors to enjoy services ranging from exercise classes that promote health and wellbeing to hiring training rooms for personal and business development.

“The ICC is so much more than just a building to our community. It is a safe, non-judgemental space where local individuals and organisations can come together to access self-help groups, adult education classes, training courses, business meetings and so much more.

“We would like to thank everyone whose immense hard work and commitment has helped to safeguard the centre’s future for the people of Nottingham.”

Discounts for hiring rooms at the ICC are available for community groups and non-profit organisations, with available parking and six rooms (plus the small hall) suitable for wheelchair users.

The ICC building is just around the corner from the historic Nottinghamshire YMCA building on Shakespeare Street, which houses the charity’s 24-hour gym facilities and housing services for vulnerable people.
