YMCA gym core membership

Members love our gym, the team, the classes, our fantastic range of equipment and its community atmosphere. YMCA gym core members get access to everything apart from 1871 Coaching and sessions.

We’ll arrange your induction on your first visit. Alternatively let us know in the notes when you join and book your induction straight away. We’ll show you how to use the equipment and answer any questions you may have about our facilities.

Free taster: CrossFit 1871


It really is the best way to find out about 1871 and meet our Coaches. These take place every Monday at 1800. Booking is essential.

1871 Fundamentals course

Hit the ground running with our fundamentals course. New 1871 members must attend the fundamentals course. These take place every Saturday from 12pm-3pm*.

Over one session, we’ll guide you through the movements and skills that you are likely to encounter during 1871 sessions. You’ll find out how to get the most out of each workout, we’ll drill weightlifting, gymnastic and plyometric movements. We’ll show you scales, progressions and movement standards, and we’ll introduce you our community ethos: No-one gets left behind.

There will be plenty of time to ask questions, there is no obligation to join and ability is not a prerequisite.

Once you have completed your fundamentals course you’re free to attend 1871 workouts and start seeing the results. You will need a membership.

YMCA running club

YMCA running club is open to all. You don’t need to be a member to take part. We hold training sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and our runners hold social runs and enter races all year round. 

All abilities are welcome. Just turn up. No one gets left behind!
