The Role
Do you have a passion for health and wellbeing, coupled with practical experience of working in a fitness centre? Could you motivate people from all walks of life to reach their fitness goals?

If you have a sound understanding of the relationship between physical activity and its positive effect on mental health and overall wellbeing and can go the extra mile to inspire our members to be advocates for our services – we want to hear from you!

As a Fitness Advisor, you are the main presence on the gym floor, assisting members and dealing with member enquiries as and when required. You will deliver effective and enjoyable fitness classes within our core membership and promote the gym, the fantastic range of equipment and community atmosphere. The success of this role will depend on your ability to ensure the smooth running of the centre and in providing an outstanding customer experience. Other responsibilities include maintaining the security of the premises, ensuring the space is clean and safe and that equipment is suitable for use.

Working as part of a dedicated team, you’ll share knowledge to improve the gym experience for our diverse fitness community. Approachable and friendly, with a holistic approach you’ll be driven to help individuals get the most out of activity sessions by creating a positive and engaging atmosphere. Your responsibilities will include fitness tests, delivery of individual programmes to customers, assisting members with enquiries, promotion of classes and sessions, and supporting the creation of digital fitness content. You’ll be an ambassador for the YMCA, promoting mind, body and spirit to achieve true fitness and wellbeing.

Our ideal candidate is empathetic and compassionate and is able to instruct people with disabilities and special needs, create and implement programmes suitable for individual needs and be passionate about teamwork but confident working on your own. Good knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, First Aid at Work and certificates in Exercise to Music, Nutrition / Nutrition Coaching, Circuits, Kettlebells, Spin / Indoor Group Cycling, Yoga/ Pilates etc. will be beneficial. A Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification as well as Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification or equivalent is essential for this role.
